I have worked in a variety of settings from community mental health to residential treatment to private practice, but have found my most fulfilling work has been done connecting in one-on-one therapy. I specialize in issues related to anxiety, communication, self-esteem, work-life balance and mood management. I have extensive training in treating substance use disorders and behavioral addictions. I have particular interest in working with clients in the areas of body acceptance, intuitive eating, pre and post-natal mental health and parenting.
Clients come to me struggling with anxiety, overwhelm, self-esteem issues, relationship issues and addictive behaviors. The process of therapy, however, takes us much deeper than particular symptoms. With my whole being I believe in getting to the root causes of distress and dysfunction rather than just treating individual symptoms. My practice is centered on providing space for clients to speak freely and make their own choices, offering direct and honest feedback and teaching self-acceptance and self-compassion. People live their most full lives when self-guided, acting on values and speaking truth, even when it is hard.
I use acceptance and commitment therapy, existential and interpersonal therapies while incorporating somatic techniques as well as those from CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy). I blend different styles of therapy because the complexities of human beings require it. My approach to therapy has been influenced by pioneers in psychotherapy, philosophy, mysticism, world religions, music and art; without these disciplines modern therapy would not exist.
I received undergraduate degrees in both Psychology and Social Work and a Masters degree in Social work while in Providence, RI. My private practice is currently based in Southern California. When I am not connecting with my clients you can find me hanging local with my little ones, writing at a cafe or curled up with a good book.
A Letter to Future Clients
I truly love what I do. I am deeply invested in my clients and feel committed to spending my time alongside those who want to evolve. Because of the intimate nature of therapy, I recognize a lot of energy is invested in this process. I work to honor and respect the things you share, the things left unsaid and the space in between.
I am equal parts excited and nervous when I begin work with someone new because sessions often take us in surprising directions, some that we cannot be fully prepared for. I have found peace in that and I am willing to sit with you in these times, grapple together with the really hard questions you have and allow enough space for the decisions you may have to make.
Sure, at times therapy can be scary or intimidating or uncomfortable. It can also be fun. There is a magic to saying anything that is on your mind, being heard and validated and having another human being understand you at your core. I am not here to see the show you put on for others. I am here to see the real living, breathing, flesh and blood person underneath the surface.
I am eager to connect and see where therapy will take you.
